Listings appear here once a business confirms its details and states a call-out range. If you run one — or know one that should be here — it takes two minutes and costs nothing.

Add a business

No locksmith in Vancouver has confirmed a listing on Locksmiths Canada yet. Until one does, this page sets out what to check before you hire one: the two BC licences, what local firms publish about price, and the consumer and tenancy rules that apply. The Vancouver page opens to listings once a business confirms its details and states its call-out range. We show phone numbers only for businesses that state that range.

One local fact is worth knowing. Statistics Canada counted 662,248 people in the City of Vancouver in the 2021 Census, at 5,750 people per square kilometre, the highest density of any Canadian municipality with 5,000 or more residents (The Daily, 9 February 2022). A city built that densely has a lot of shared entrances, so before you book work, check whether the door belongs to you, your landlord or your strata.

Licensing in British Columbia

In BC, locksmithing is a licensed security activity under the Security Services Act, and two separate licences are involved. The company needs a security business licence. The province's page lists "a locksmith" among the businesses that need one unless exempt (last updated 9 March 2026). The person who does the work needs a security worker licence, and that page also lists "a locksmith" (last updated 9 March 2026). It adds that a licence from another province does not exempt anyone from needing a BC licence.

You can check both yourself. The Security Programs Division's page About security industry licensing (last updated 10 December 2025) links to a lookup where you can check whether a worker or business is licensed. The same page warns that a recently renewed licence may not show its correct status or expiry date in that tool, so if a result looks odd, ask for the licence number and expiry date and look again.

What locksmiths in Vancouver publish about price

Two Vancouver locksmiths publish figures on their own websites. The table quotes only what each page showed when we read it on 18 October 2026. These are the businesses' own prices, not our estimates, and they can change at any time.

BusinessWhat the page showsDate shown
Safe & Secure Locksmith, Macdonald StService call $75 (8:30 am to 5 pm). Home or business lockout $80 to $160 in standard hours. Rekey $25 to $45 per cylinder for standard hardware, first two keys included. House or office key cutting $5 to $15. After-hours labour from $150 (5 pm to 9 pm) and $250 per hour (9 pm to 8:30 am). Prices plus tax.No date shown, read 18 October 2026
Everest Locksmith, W BroadwayService call $69, which the page says is credited toward the bill once work is approved. Daytime lockout $89 to $220. After-hours lockout $145 to $300. Lock rekeying $25 to $65."Prices verified September 2026"

The two pages are built differently. One lists a daytime service call and separate after-hours labour rates. The other lists a service call that is credited toward the job and a separate after-hours lockout range. When you compare quotes, compare the total for the same job at the same hour, not the first number you hear.

Your rights as a consumer in British Columbia

Consumer Protection BC enforces the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act. Its page Salesperson at your door? Know your rights (posted 24 July 2015) explains that a contract made somewhere other than the supplier's permanent place of business, usually your home, is a direct sales contract. For those, it says you have 10 days to cancel for any reason, and the contract must include the business name and address, the date, a detailed description of the goods or services, and the total price and payment terms. The page also says it is not a direct sales contract if you invited the seller more than 24 hours in advance, or if the contract is under $50. Whether a particular call-out fits depends on the facts, so ask Consumer Protection BC if you are unsure.

Its contracts overview (posted 11 January 2011) says the consumer has to get a copy of a direct sales contract right away. Keep that copy with your receipt. If a problem is not resolved with the business, Consumer Protection BC's complaint page (no date shown, read 18 October 2026) explains which issues it can help with.

If you rent

BC's Rental unit locks and keys page (last updated 4 March 2026) is clear on four points. New tenants can ask the landlord to rekey the locks for free. Tenants can only replace the locks with written permission from the landlord, and doing it without approval or an order could lead to eviction. Landlords can charge for extra or replacement keys, but not more than the actual cost of the key. And landlords can't lock a tenant out, even during an eviction. If you rent in Vancouver and want a lock changed, get the landlord's written permission before the locksmith arrives.

Before you call

  • What is the company's security business licence number, and does the technician coming to me hold a security worker licence? Check both in the provincial lookup.
  • What is the total for this job at this hour, including the service call? Does the after-hours rate apply right now?
  • Is there a travel charge to my area? Name your neighbourhood, such as Kerrisdale, Hastings-Sunrise or the West End, or say if you are in Burnaby or North Vancouver.
  • For a rekey, what is the price per cylinder, and how many keys are included?
  • Is this a strata or rental door? If so, do I have written permission from the landlord or strata before work starts?
  • Will I get a written contract or invoice with your business name, address and total price?

Common questions

Do locksmiths need a licence in British Columbia?
Yes. Under the Security Services Act, the BC government's licensing pages list a locksmith among the businesses that need a security business licence and among the work that needs a security worker licence, unless exempt (both pages last updated 9 March 2026). So the company and the person at your door each need one. A licence from another province does not count. You can check both through the provincial licence lookup.
How much does a locksmith cost in Vancouver?
We do not estimate prices. Two Vancouver firms publish their own. Safe & Secure Locksmith shows a $75 daytime service call, lockouts of $80 to $160 in standard hours and rekeys of $25 to $45 per cylinder, plus tax (no date shown, read 18 October 2026). Everest Locksmith shows a $69 service call and daytime lockouts of $89 to $220 (prices verified September 2026). Always ask for the total at the hour you call.
Why are there no listings in Vancouver yet?
A city opens on Locksmiths Canada once a business confirms its details and states its call-out range. No Vancouver locksmith has done that yet, so this page gives you the checks to make on your own. Locksmiths Canada takes no commission and does not rank by payment. Businesses can add a free listing at https://locksmithscanada.com/add-your-business/.
Can I change the locks on my Vancouver rental?
Not on your own. BC's Rental unit locks and keys page (last updated 4 March 2026) says tenants can only replace locks with written permission from the landlord, and doing it without approval or an order could lead to eviction. New tenants can ask the landlord to rekey for free, and landlords cannot charge more than the actual cost of a replacement key.
Can I cancel a locksmith contract signed at my home in BC?
Possibly. Consumer Protection BC says a contract made away from the supplier's permanent place of business, usually your home, is a direct sales contract with a 10-day cancellation right. Its page also says this does not apply if you invited the seller more than 24 hours ahead or the contract is under $50. Whether your call-out qualifies depends on the facts, so ask Consumer Protection BC.
